One of the historical reasons for the creation of the SBL was the need to fight for the rights of ethnic minorities and to ensure that black and Asian communities were receiving adequate legal representation.

As a result, service to the community is an important part of SBL’s work.  There are a variety of community organisations and groups dealing with issues such as deaths in police custody, mental health, youth justice, police community relations, school exclusions and employment discrimination.

By becoming a community member of the SBL, individuals and organisations can help shape our community strategy and access the legal expertise, information and support of our professional members.
