Bar Standards Board: Committee opportunities
As the Bar Standards Board launches its latest recruitment drive for new committee members, Jasbir Dhillon tells blacklawyer.org why he became a member of its Standards Committee.
I am a barrister practising commercial law at Brick Court Chambers. I have been a member of the Standards Committee of the Bar Standards Board since 2006.
I joined the Standards Committee because I have a strong interest in the ethical rules and principles by which the Bar is regulated and out of a desire to give something back to my profession.
The work on the committee is extremely varied and ranges from considering individual problems that have arisen under the current Bar Code of Conduct to ethical and regulatory issues that affect the Bar as a whole and its relationship with solicitors, other professions and the public.
I would encourage anyone who has an interest in the regulation of the Bar and wants to contribute to the profession to apply to join the Standards Committee or any of the other committees of the Bar Standards Board.
Further information about the Standards Committee or any other committees of the Bar Standards Board can be found on the BSB website: http://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/about/ourcommittees/
